Overview
Alphabet Kaleidoscope is a creative exploration at the intersection of coding and design. Using the Processing programming language, this project focused on developing a custom alphabet and designs through coded scripts and visual experimentation.
Scope of Work
The project involved learning to write code to design a complete set of original letter-forms A-Z. The resulting typographic visuals were curated into a printed book, accompanied by coded visual designs and commentary on the creative journey.
Process
1 / Learning to code
The first step to creating the custom alphabet was learning how to code. Progress was made through personal research, class tutorials, and creating simple practice images.
2 / Creating the letters
With a basic understanding of coding, progress started on creating the code to generate letters and designs to fill the book. Through experimentation and small adjustments, the images were refined to arrive at the product.
3 / Creating the book
The final step was to compile the completed images and content on the process into a book. A cover was designed and sent off with the finished pages to be printed through Blurb.
